The Montverde Academy softball team has beat Crystal River 3-1 in the semifinal round of the 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional tournament Tuesday at the Montverde Academy Softball Complex.
Ari Jimenez and Leila Susaia both scored runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead 2-1.Â
Trailing 1-0 after a run by Crystal River in the top of the first, the Eagles tied the game when Jimenez scored on a bases loaded walk by Elena Friedman. Later in the bottom of the first, Susaia scored on a passed ball by the Crystal River catcher.
Jimenez scored her second run of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the game 3-1. A two-out triple to right field by Danika Spinogatti scored the run.
Not only did Jimenez score 2 runs, but she also had 2 stolen bases and went 2-for-3 at the plate
LaBreah Sands also had a great game as the starting pitcher. She pitched 7.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out 14 batters.
The Eagles now have a 25-4 record this season with the final of the FHSAA regional tournament on Friday, May 17 at 7:00 pm at home against No. 2 seed Santa Fe for the championship.
