Dasia Reed and Skyler Franklin Earn Awards from MileSplit

MileSplit announced recently that three Montverde Academy track & field stars earned prestigious honors by their organization for the 2024 season.

Rising tenth grader Dasia Reed was named the 2024 MileSplit Florida Freshman of the Year, while rising eleventh grader Skyler Franklin earned the Sophomore of Year after a phenomenal season on the track this past spring.

Reed had a great first year of high school in 2024, earning wins at the 100 meter and 200 meter distances. At the 100 meter distance, Reed earned wins during all three state series races. She won the 100 meter dash at the state championship in 11.92 seconds on May 16, after winning the regional championship in 11.74 seconds on May 7 and district championship in 11.96 seconds on April 30.

Reed also earned a win at the 100 meters at the Florida State Relays in 11.76 seconds on March 23.She ran a personal best time of 11.45 seconds while finishing a hard fought second at the prestigious Florida Relays on March 30.

At the 200 meter distance, Reed won the Citrus League Championship in a time of 24.25 seconds on April 5. She ran in a personal best time of 23.65 seconds while finishing second at the National Scholarship Invitational on June 2.

During indoor season, Reed earned a win at the 60 meter dash in 7.59 seconds at the Florida HS/MS Indoor Championships on February 10. She also won the 200 meter dash at that meet in 24.21 seconds.

Franklin also had a phenomenal season in 2024. She earned a pair of wins at the 400 meter distance, including a win at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 6 in a personal best time of 51.66 seconds and the Brooks PR Invitational in 52.01 seconds on June 12.

During indoor season, Franklin earned a win in the 200 meter dash in a personal best time of 23.86 seconds at the Legends of Alachua County on January 28. 

Franklin also won the national championship at prestigious Nike Indoor Nationals in the 400 meters in 53.44 seconds on March 10.

As a relay team, Reed and Franklin were a part of MVA's 4x400 relay team that broke a high school record in a time of 3:35.17 minutes.
