Montverde, FL (January 22, 2025) – The Montverde Academy girls soccer team is set to begin its quest through the playoffs in hopes of winning its third straight state championship by competing in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 6 playoffs this week.
After securing a first-round bye, the No. 1 seed Eagles will take the field on Friday at 6:00 pm against the winner of Wednesday's play-in game between No. 4 seed South Sumter High School and No. 5 seed Umatilla High School. Friday's matchup will take place at the opponent's home facility due.
Should Montverde Academy win on Friday, the Eagles will play in the district championship game where they will host the winner between No. 2 seed Lake Highland Prep and No. 3 seed The Villages Charter School on Tuesday January 28 at 6:00 pm.
Montverde Academy enters the tournament with an impressive 15-1-0 overall record, having outscored opponents by a combined 57-10 margin. The team's defensive dominance has been highlighted by 10 shutouts this season.
Offensively, Montverde Academy has been led by standout forward Luisa Tannus, who has netted a team-high 15 goals this season. Teammates Alessandra Jimenez and Lola Rey have each contributed six goals, providing additional scoring threats. Playmakers Vienna Morgan and Kendall Seays share the team lead in assists with six each.
In goal, Alyssa Strausbaugh has been a key anchor for Montverde Academy's defense. She has appeared in 15 games, making 41 saves, and remains undefeated as the starting goalkeeper with a perfect 15-0 record.
Should Montverde Academy win the district tournament, the Eagles get an automatic qualifier into the regional tournament which starts on February 11.
