Game 1: CIA Bella Vista over Riviera Prep 72-43 (Written by student Pedro Salgado)
CIA Bella Vista secured a dominant 72-43 victory over Riviera Prep on Thursday afternoon in the first game of the day at the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament in Montverde.
CIA Bella Vista used their size and strength to take an early lead, and the Bears led 17-11 by the end of the first quarter.
The Bears extended their lead early in the second quarter and led 33-15, before the Bulldogs closed out the half with an 8-0 run to pull to within 10 and the score was 33-23 CIA Bella Vista.
Riviera Prep narrowed the gap further in the third quarter, opening the period with a 7-0 spurt (15-0 total) to make the score 33-30 with four minutes to go.
CIA Bella Vista responded with a dominant 16-0 run to close the quarter up 46-33. The Bears then carried that momentum into the fourth to finish with a strong win.
Jaion Pitt led CIA Bella Vista with 14 points, while Myles Fuentes had nine for Riviera Prep.
Game 2: Utah Prep over Sagemont 82-79 (Written by student Pedro Salgado)
Utah Prep defeated Sagemont Prep 82-79 in the second game of the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Montverde.
Utah Prep controlled the game early, leading 15-10 after the first quarter and extending its advantage to 40-25 at halftime
Sagemont Prep fought hard and chipped away at the lead the entire second half, and the Lions cut the lead to three and even had the ball in the final possession with a chance to tie.
But a buzzer tying three point attempt by Sagemont's Patrick Liburd was blocked by Xavier Stanton at the buzzer.
Utah Prep's AJ Dybantsa had an outstanding game. By halftime, the nation's No. 1 ranked high school player already had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds en route to team-highs 35 points and 15 rebounds. The BYU commit also knocked in seven three point field goals in the win (7-for-8). Meanwhile teammate JJ Mandaquit had a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists.
Sagemont Prep was led by Matthew Able with a game-high 39 points, including 35 in the second half alone, which was the catalyst that put the Lions in position to tie the game in the closing seconds.
Game 3: Calvary Christian over AZ Compass 58-49 (Written by student Pedro Salgado)
Calvary Christian defeated AZ Compass 58-49 on Thursday afternoon in the third game of the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament in Montverde.
Calvary Christian started off strong, leading 17-10 after the first. The Eagles extended their lead in the second quarter scoring thirteen points and holding AZ Compass to only three points through the eight minute stretch.
The Dragons cut the lead to six by the end of the third. But Calvary Christian scored nine straight at the start of the fourth to reestablish a comfortable lead.
The Eagles carried on their momentum through the fourth quarter to finish off a strong win.
Calvary Christian was led by Shon Abaev and Sam Hallas, both with 17 points. Cayden Daughtery added 12 points and had eight assists.
Kalek House and Kaden House had a team co-high 14 points for AZ Compass.
Game G1: Montverde Academy over Fort Erie International 73-55Â (Written by student Adam Townsend)
The Montverde Academy girls basketball team avenged its only loss this season in a 73-55 win over Fort Erie International in a rematch of a game played in the Bahamas in December.
Saniyah Hall led the Eagles with 22 points, six assists and five steals, while Lourdes Da Silva Costa had 19 points and five rebounds.
The Eagles held strong early in the game and had a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Montverde Academy maintained its dominance in the second half with the Eagles controlling both defense and offense.
Aaliyah Crump also scored in double figures adding 11.
"The team is getting a lot better and playing better together," Hall said.
The Eagles are now 19-1 and play again on Friday against  Long Island Lutheran at the Nest at 6 pm.
Game 4: Montverde Academy over Windermere Prep 81-41 (Written by Sports Information Manager, Mr. Michael Damon)
In a match against two local schools, the Montverde Academy boys basketball team defeated neighbor WIndermere Prep 81-41 on the opening night of the 2025 Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) on campus Thursday evening.
Dante Allen led the way with 18 points, while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor, including 5-for-5 from the three point line. He also had six assists in the win.
Trent Sisley scored 13 points and was also perfect from the field, shooting 5-for-5 from the floor. Hudson Greer added 12 points in the win.
The Eagles led from start to finish, opening the game on a 16-4 run, and the Eagles were up 22-7 after the first quarter and 41-19 by halftime
The Eagles shot a season-high 64 percent from the floor (30-for-47), and held an overwhelming 32-4 advantage on points off turnovers.
Windermere Prep was led by Bradnon Bass, Jr. with 16 points.
