The Montverde Academy boys basketball team dropped a tough preseason contest on Monday evening, falling 74–73 in overtime to Central Pointe Christian Academy (CPCA) at The Nest. The Eagles controlled the game for nearly all 36 minutes, never trailing in regulation and leading by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter, before a late surge from the White Tigers saw the matchup slip away in the closing moments.
MVA held a 65–62 lead in the final seconds of regulation before CPCA connected on a game-tying three-pointer to force overtime. The Eagles responded with poise, opening the extra period with eight straight points to build a 73–65 advantage with just over two and a half minutes remaining. However, CPCA closed the game on a 9–0 run, taking their first and only lead of the night in the final ten seconds to escape with the victory.
Joe Philon III led MVA with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 21 points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. Dhani Miller provided a major spark off the bench, delivering 14 points and seven rebounds as MVA dominated bench scoring by a 28–10 margin.
MVA opens its regular season this Friday, taking on Southeastern Prep at the Miami Tip-Off in South Florida. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
