The Montverde Academy boys basketball team opened the Nike EYBL Scholastic Bojangles Bash on Friday evening with a 61-51 win over CATS Academy. The victory marked the Eagles' first of the season, improving their overall record to 1-3 and their Nike EYBL Scholastic record to 1-2 this season.

The Eagles were led by a trio of standout performances from Oneal Delancy, Jayden Hodge, and Derek Daniels, each finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Hodge also contributed three assists and five steals in the win.

MVA jumped out to an early 16-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 35-18 by halftime. MVA controlled the game for nearly the entire 32 minutes, with CATS Academy holding the lead for just 28 seconds in the first quarter.

MVA excelled in the paint and on the boards, outscoring the opponent 40-30 in points in the paint and holding a 33-23 rebounding edge.

The Eagles return to the court on Saturday against River View at 7:30 pm.
