Montverde Academy put on a dominant performance Thursday afternoon, shutting out Cornerstone Charter Academy 10-0 behind a stellar offensive display and a perfect game from starting pitcher Nevaeh Williams to open up play in the 2025 Montverde Academy Invitational Softball Tournament (MAIST) on campus.
Williams was untouchable in the circle, striking out 10 batters while not allowing a single baserunner. Her flawless outing set the tone for Montverde's explosive offense.
"It feels great, I've been really wanting to accomplish a perfect game for a long time, and for it to be the third game of the season it feels amazing," said Williams, reigning Florida Dairy Farmers Player of the Year.
Luna Taboas led the charge at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Danika Spinogatti delivered the biggest blow of the game, launching a three-run home run while driving in five runs on a 2-for-3 performance. Ashley Berkemeier also had a strong showing, going 3-for-3 and crossing the plate three times. La'Breah Sands added more power to the lineup, finishing 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored.
"We struggled in the beginning, but once halfway in the game, we started to really come together and come back out strong," said Spinogatti who is just four runs batted in shy of becoming MVA's all-time leader.
The Eagles will now play next on Friday evening at 8:00 pm against the winner between Oviedo and Winter Springs.
