Danati Fronduto went 3-for-4 and was just a triple shy of batting for the cycle as the Montverde Academy baseball team beat IMG Academy's Gray roster 8-3 in the final game of pool play at the Florida League High School Invitational in Sanford on Thursday afternoon.
Fronduto also scored once and drove in a pair to lead the Eagles to victory. His home run came in the sixth inning, a solo shot which added an insurance run.
Fellow teammates Michael Alicea, Carlos Feliciano and Santi Marin also had multiple hit games for the Eagles, who are now 8-4 overall this season. Alicea went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and a run batted in, while Feliciano went 2-for-3. Marin went 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of runs batted in.
IMG Gray took the lead in the top of the first after scoring a run before the Eagles countered with a pair in the bottom half to jump ahead 2-1. The Ascenders retook the lead in the top of the third with a pair of run, before the Eagles exploded with a four spot in the bottom half to lead 6-3, en route to victory.
Starting pitcher Jacob Holley earned the win after pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Fronduto pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in relief and struck out two in preserving the win.
