The Montverde Academy got back to its winning ways on Monday evening as the Eagles defeated Trinity Prep 6-1 at the MVA Softball Complex to improve to 10-1 on the season.
The visiting Saints scored their lone run in the top of the first inning, before the Eagles scored a run of their own to tie the score after the first frame. A single by Addie Poe scored Luna Taboas to get MVA on the board.
The Eagles then scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. First Poe lifted a sacrifice fly to score Colby Reish. Later in the inning, La'Breah Sands was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to score Taboas. Then a single by Leila Susaia scored Danika Spinogatti to make the score 4-1.
MVA added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Reish struck out on a passed ball, but Susaia was able to score from third when the throw to first was airmailed. Later Luna Taboas singled to score Audrey Vivino to put the Eagles up 6-1.
For the game, the Eagles amassed 10 hits. Taboas led the way going 4-for-4 with two runs and a run batted in. Susaia went 2-for-3 with a run and a run batted in. Poe went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, while Spinogatti was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
Sands earned the win, pitching a complete game, allowing one (unearned) run on three hits with 16 strikeouts.
MVA is back in action on Wednesday for a game at The First Academy at 6:00 pm.
