The Montverde Academy baseball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon , defeating the Benjamin School 5-2 at Lindor Field to up its current winning streak to nine games.
The action started quickly in the bottom of the first inning with the Eagles scoring three runs to jump ahead 3-0 early. Danati Fronduto launched a two-run home run to right field, giving MVA a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Joevansky Velez ripped a single to score Arnaldo Gonzalez to make the score 3-0.
Benjamin responded in the second inning with a run of its own, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
In the third inning, MVA extended its lead as senior onzalez crushed a solo home run to left field, pushing the Eagles ahead 4-1.
The Buccaneers fought back, adding another run in the fourth to make it 4-2, but MVA kept them at bay the rest of the way.
The Eagles added one more insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to solidify the 5-2 win.
"Not a bad job. We handled business. Not a bad team, but we just executed—that's what we need to do for the rest of the season," said Gonzalez.
The Eagles' offense tallied seven hits on the night, with Gonzalez leading the charge, going 2-for-3 with two runs and a home run. Fronduto also had a strong performance, finishing with a hit, a home run, and three runs batted in. Jonathan Valdes and Velez also contributed key hits to MVA's effort.
Senior pitcher Tyler Severs earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits before giving way to Fronduto who earned the save after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
"Tonight's game was a good game, offensively we did a pretty good job," said head coach Victor Valencia.
The Eagles will look for their tenth win in a row in their next game against a team to be determined at the Florida League High School Invitational on Friday.
