Montverde Academy Varsity Eagles dominated Tampa Catholic with a 7-1 win, powered by a stellar performance from La'Breah Sands in the circle and key offensive plays throughout the game.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings despite Montverde Academy loading the bases in the second. The breakthrough came in the bottom of the fourth when Colby Reish hit a crucial RBI single, scoring Sands. Missy Odom then stole home, putting MVA ahead 2-1.
Sands was dominant in the circle, striking out 13 batters over 4 2/3 innings. Neveah Williams entered in a high-pressure moment in the fifth with runners on first and second and two outs. She delivered in the clutch, striking out the batter to end the threat.
The Eagles extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Addie Poe singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a hit by Miranda Murch, making it 3-1.
Williams continued her strong relief performance, finishing with six strikeouts. The offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth as Danika Spinogatti hit a double (the 29th of her career to set a new all-time MVA record) on a fly ball to center field so score Ashley Berkemeier and Reish to tie the MVA record for most runs batted in in a MVA career. Poe capped off the scoring with a home run, sealing the 7-1 victory.
"We didn't start off as strong as we wanted to, but we had timely hits and we were able to come back at the end," said Poe.
Montverde Academy looks to carry this momentum into its next matchup against Lake Weir on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm.
