It was a senior night defeat for the Montverde Academy Eagles as they struggled to generate any offense against the Lake Minneola Hawks, losing 7-2 last Wednesday at Francisco Lindor Field.
Hawks pitcher Brady Montrowl proved a worthy matchup for the Eagles as he was throwing a no-hitter until the bottom of the 4th when Jonathan Valdes hit a single for the Eagles'Â first hit of the night.
The Eagles offense didn't stop as both Jonathan Valdes and Danati Fronduto both scored to tie to give MVA the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning.
But in the top of the fifth, a balk followed up by an immediate two-run single that gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead. The offense didn't stop as another hit by the Hawks drove home another run making the score 4-2 by the end of the fifth.
A couple of scores later, Lake Minneola's right fielder Maddux Bultema hit an RBI single make the score 7-2 for the Hawks.
A late two-run home run for Hawks pitcher Jacob Cali made the score 9-2.
The Eagles' regular season ends with a 15-8 record as the team prepares now for the Florida High School Athletic Association district playoffs next week.
"We need to go back on track the way we were playing, the team is getting back on track, but we just had a bad game today," said head coach Victor Valencia. "The guys are ready for that, we need to prepare and get ready for Tuesday."
MVA earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming district playoffs and will compete against Foundation Academy on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Francisco Lindor Field.
