The Montverde Academy softball team was defeated by Trinity Catholic 3-0 in the championship game of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional championship on campus Thursday evening.
The Eagles' season ends with a 27-3 overall record, district championship and an appearance in the regional championship for the third year in a row.
The only scoring of the game came in the top half of the third inning when the visiting Celtics scored three unearned runs. An error with two outs, allowed the first two runs of the game to score. Then moments later, Trinity Catholic executed a double steal that allowed a runner from third to score to go up 3-0.
Meanwhile, Eagles starting pitcher Nevaeh Williams pitched brilliantly. She allowed no earned runs, two hits and struck out 15. She also became the first pitcher in Montverde Academy history to amass 500 career strikeouts. She now has 505 with one season to go.
Luna Taboas, Addison Poe, Ashley Berkemeier, Danika Spinogatti and Colby Reish had one hit each for the Eagles.
