The Montverde Academy softball team delivered a statement win on their home turf, The Softball Complex, against The First Academy Royals in the quarterfinal round of the regional quarterfinals with a 14-0 win.
From the first pitch, the Eagles came out strong, jumping to an early 5-0 lead by the end of the first inning. Their momentum only grew as they added another run in the second to make it 6-0, then widened the gap to 8-0 by the end of the third. The Royals struggled to keep up, committing multiple errors that gave the Eagles even more opportunities to capitalize. By the end of the fourth inning, the score had ballooned to 14-0, showing the Eagles' dominance both offensively and defensively.
Looking at the stats, several Montverde players stood out at the plate. Luna Taboas and Addie Poe both delivered outstanding performances, going 3-for-4 each. Taboas had two doubes and three runs batted in, while Poe had a double, a triple and a run batted in. Elena Friedman went 2-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in, while Leila Susaia had two hits and drove in a run.
"We hit pretty well, we did good defensively, we came out strong," said Danika Spinogatti.
Thanks to the FHSAA mercy rule, which ends the game if a team leads by 10 or more runs after five innings, the game was officially called after the fifth inning with no bottom half needed,
"Tonight's win was one we were positive about, we knew coming into we've already beat them by a lot of runs twice before," said head coach Kahley Armstrong (MVA had beaten The First Academy 17-0 on March 26 and 13-0 in the district semifinals on April 29).
With this dominant win, Montverde Academy advances to the regional semifinals and will host Cornerstone Charter Academy on Tuesday, May 13.
