The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Mount Dora High School on Tuesday evening. The Eagles controlled the match from start to finish, earning set victories of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-19.
Natalia Baquerizo led the attack with 13 kills, while Gabi Carvalho added 10 kills. Mirea Thederahn was a force on both sides of the ball, recording 7 kills and 9 digs. Setter Isabella Parra directed the offense with 16 assists and chipped in 2 service aces.
The victory marked Montverde Academy's third straight win, improving the Eagles' record to 5-2 on the season.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the Florida Gem High School Classic in Tampa this weekend. They open tournament play Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Steinbrenner High School.
Before the three set win, the junior varsity team earned a 2-0 (26-24, 25-23) win over Mount Dora. The JV team will also compete at the Florida Gem High School Classic this weekend, starting with a match against The Villages at 4:30 p.m. Before that, the JV team will play again on Wednesday at Lyman High School at 5:00 p.m.
