Montverde Academy boys basketball battled to the final horn but fell just short in a 64-59 loss to Link Academy on Saturday evening during day two of the Nike EYBL Scholastic Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Eagles showed resilience throughout the contest, rallying back after trailing by double digits on two separate occasions. Despite being behind for much of the game, Montverde Academy cut the deficit to a single possession in the final minute, keeping pressure on Link until the closing seconds.
Individually, Dhani Miller led the offensive effort with 17 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Joe Philon III recorded a strong double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while also protecting the rim with three blocks. Oneal Delancy contributed 16 points, and Derek Daniels chipped in eight points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Montverde Academy controlled the glass, holding a 35-27 rebounding advantage.
The Eagles now stand at 8-5 on the season.
Montverde Academy will return to the court on Sunday for day three of the Hoop Hall Classic, facing Long Island Lutheran at 5:30 p.m.
