If day one set the tone, day two raised the stakes. Friday at the 2026 MAIT presented by Discover Lake County featured overtime, last-second finishes, and big performances as teams battled inside the Nest at Montverde Academy.


Game 5: Bethel Academy over Dr. Phillips 65-62 OT

Bethel Academy defeated Dr. Phillips High School in overtime of the first game of the day on day two of the 2026 MAIT tournament presented by Discover Lake County at Montverde Academy.

Bethel Academy dug a big hole early and trailed 16-2 midway through the first quarter.

Down 19-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Blazers outscored the Panthers 17-10 over the final eight minutes of the first half, leaving the 29-23 in favor of Dr. Phillips.

Dr. Phillips led the entire way until the final five seconds of regulation when Bethel Academy tied the score just before the end of the fourth quarter.

Bethel Academy  took its first lead of the game with just over three minutes to go in overtime, and the Blazers led by as much as five in the final minute.

Bethel Academy was led by Devin Toatley with 18 points, while Makiah Gray had 16, along with five rebounds. Cameron Prosper had 11 points off the bench for the Blazers.

Dr. Phillips was led by Josiah Gilliard with a game-high 27 points, to go along with team-highs of six rebounds and five assists. CJ Thomas was the only other Panthers to score in double-figures and added 10.
 

Game 6: Riviera Prep over Northside Christian 56-55

In a game that saw eight ties, eight lead changes and neither team leading by more than nine, Riviera Prep edged past Northside Christian 56-55 in the second game on the second day of the 2026 MAIT tournament.

Riviera Prep was led by a trio of players with 12 points each. Jonathan Watts had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Teammate Anton Safin scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocked shots. Laron Mack, Jr. added 12 points and five rebounds in the win. 

Quincy Douby, Jr. added eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Northside Christian was led by Elijah Ahlers who scored a game-high 17 off the bench, while teammate CJ Hearn added 14 points for the Mustangs. Isaac Jacobs also notched double figures in points, scoring 10.

Game 7: Faith Family Academy over DME Academy 91-60

Faith Family Academy cruised to a 91-60 over DME Academy in the third game of the second day of MAIT at Montverde Academy.

Leading 21-16 at the end of the first quarter, Faith Family Academy outscored DME 23-11 in a decisive second quarter to take control of the contest.

The Eagles led 44-27 at halftime and 64-45 by the end of the third quarter.

Josiah Rose led Faith Family Academy with 31 points, while Josiah Jones came off the bench and provided 23 points and seven assists. Gavin Placide had a double-double of 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Gallagher Placide added 14 points in the win.

DME Academy was led by Katanjay Jenkins with team-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds. Nathan Kirk added 11 points for the Volts.

Faith Family Academy connected on 55 percent from the floor (32-for-58), and the Eagles were a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line in the win.

MVA Girls: Montverde Academy over Holy Trinity Episcopal 87-59

In Montverde Academy girls basketball's one off home game in conjunction with MAIT, the Eagles defeated Holy Trinity Episcopal 87-59.

The host Eagles led from start to finish en route to picking up the win. 

Montverde Academy led 26-9 by the end of the first quarter, and the Eagles took a 48-24 lead into halftime.

The Eagles were led by Mia Elle Lieverst with a team-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds. Meanwhile Jordan Speller had 20 points in the win. Jayla Forbes came off the bench and scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds. Kendall Perry scored 12 points, while Jamila Ray had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Holy Trinity Episcopal was led by Leila Bryant with a game-high 35 points on 14-of-28 shooting, including 7-for-13 from behind the three point line. She also had 12 rebounds.

Montverde Academy dominated the game in multiple facets, using its athleticism and size. The Eagles held a 50-24 advantage on points in the paint, 20-7 on second chance points and 43-28 on rebounding. 

Game 8: Montverde Academy over The Rock School 70-69

The intense game saw 14 lead changes and nine ties. So it was only fitting that the game came down to the final possession.

Montverde Academy, playing in front of a loud energetic home crowd defeated The Rock School 70-69 to close out day two of the MAIT tournament presented by Discover Lake County on Friday night.

A driving lay-up by Dhani Miller with 17 seconds left gave Montverde Academy the lead and eventual win, as the final possession by the Rock School came up empty.

Miller's final two points of the night gave him a team-high 19 on the evening, to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Derek Daniels added 16 points, a game-high nine rebounds and three blocks. Oneal Delancy added 13 points, while Javion Tyndale had 12 points, six rebounds and a game-high nine assists.

The Rock School was led by Deandre Harvey with 25 points and six rebounds, while teammate Joseph Hartman had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds Jacob Pleyer added 11 points for The Rock.
