Montverde Academy boys basketball delivered a convincing win on Wednesday night, defeating nationally ranked IMG Academy 83-62 in a matchup featuring two teams ranked in the latest ESPN Top 25.
Montverde Academy, ranked No. 13, controlled the game from the opening minutes and never looked back against the No. 21 ranked Ascenders. After IMG scored the first basket of the game to take a brief 3-0 lead in the opening minute, the Eagles responded quickly and never trailed again, holding the advantage for more than 30 of the game's 32 minutes.
The Eagles were efficient offensively, shooting a blistering 60 percent from the field (31-for-52). Dhani Miller led the Eagles with a team-high 21 points (on 8-for-10 shooting) to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Oneal Delancy added 19 points (6-for-11, including 5-for-7 from behind the three point line) and five rebounds, while Derek Daniels contributed 16 points (6-for10) and five boards. Joe Philon III rounded out the balanced scoring effort with 15 points (6-for-8).
With the win, MVA improves to 6-4 on the season.
The Eagles return to action on Friday night, hosting The Villages at 7:00 p.m. inside the Nest.
