The Montverde Academy baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Lake Minneola on Wednesday at the Eustis Tournament, hosted at Eustis High School.
Lake Minneola plated single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Montverde Academy answered in the bottom of the sixth, as Max Irving launched a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2.
Lake Minneola responded in the top of the seventh inning, scoring three runs to regain the lead at 5-2. Montverde Academy mounted a late rally in the bottom half of the inning, scoring one run when Odanyx Ofarril drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Irving led the Montverde Academy offense, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Joel Ortiz and Michael Alicea each finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
Anders Morello suffered the loss on the mound, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing four runs on four hits.
With the loss, Montverde Academy moves to 1-1 on the season.
Montverde Academy returns to action on Thursday with a matchup against Tavares High School at 4:30 p.m. at the Eustis Tournament in Eustis.
