Missy Odom delivered a historic performance in the circle and at the plate on Wednesday evening. She pitching a no-hitter and struck out 17 batters to lead Montverde Academy softball to a 7-0 victory over Phillips Academy at the Montverde Academy Softball Complex.
Odom was dominant throughout the night, throwing a complete game, allowing no runs and no hits across 7.0 innings. She walked three and struck out 17 in a commanding performance for the Eagles.
The Florida State commit for both softball and basketball also made a major impact offensively. She went 2-for-3 with a walk and blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the game open. Her home run pushed the Eagles' lead from 3-0 to 7-0 and gave her four runs batted in on the night.
Early on, the game remained scoreless, and the game went deadlocked into the fifth inning when Montverde Academy broke through. Addie Poe launched her team-leading fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Overall, Montverde Academy finished the game with seven hits. Odom and Colby Reish each recorded two hits, with Reish going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.
Poe finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Nevaeh Williams, Carly Howard, and Elin Gunkel each added a hit. Gunkel reached base three times, going 1-for-1 with two walks and scoring twice.
The win improves Montverde Academy to 8-1 on the season.
The Eagles will now be off through spring break before returning to action on Wednesday, March 25, when they host Inspiration Academy at 6:00 p.m. at the Montverde Academy Softball Complex.
