Montverde Academy baseball faced a tough test on Thursday afternoon and fell 6-0 to Bishop Moore Catholic in a winner's bracket matchup at the Bishop Moore Tournament in Orlando.
The Eagles move to 10-5 on the season following the loss, while Bishop Moore — ranked No. 25 nationally by MaxPreps — improved to a perfect 16-0 on the year.
MVA's offense was limited throughout the contest, as Bishop Moore carried a no-hit bid into the final inning. The Eagles broke through in the top of the seventh when Jonathan Valdes delivered a one-out single. Miguel Ramos followed with a two-out single later in the frame, accounting for MVA's only two hits of the afernoon.
On the mound, Alex Bello was tagged with the loss after going 4.0 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits while striking out two.
The Eagles return to action Friday in the tournament's third-place game, with their opponent still to be determined.
