Montverde Academy baseball fell 10-3 on the road to South Sumter High School on Monday evening.
The Eagles struck first, plating a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Carlos Feliciano lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Max Irving for the game's opening run.
South Sumter answered immediately with a run in the bottom half of the inning, then seized control with four runs in the second and five more in the third to build a commanding 10-1 advantage after three innings.
Montverde Academy attempted to chip away in the fifth. Andres Morillo delivered a sacrifice fly to score Irving for the second time, and Feliciano added his second sac fly of the night to bring in Odanyx Ofarril. However, the rally was not enough.
Offensively, Montverde Academy collected seven hits, led by Ofarril, who went 3-for-4 with a run.
On the mound, Rainer Garcia took the loss after tossing 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits. Raja Sandhu provided relief, working the final 3.1 innings and surrendering two runs on eight hits.
