The Montverde Academy girls track and field team delivered an outstanding performance Friday evening at the Dr. Phillips Invitational, winning the team title against a strong field of 28 schools at West Orange High School. The Montverde Academy boys also competed well, finishing 13th out of 26 teams.
Event Champions Lead the Way
Montverde Academy's girls were powered by several first-place finishes across both track and field events.
DaQuana Howell sprinted to victory in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 24.81 seconds.
Adriana Rodriguez captured first place in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 54.76 seconds.
Jizelle Holland dominated the hurdles, winning both the 100-meter hurdles (14.77) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.18) to secure a pair of event titles.
In the field events, Julia Saelg claimed the pole vault title by clearing 3.66 meters.
The Eagles also took first place in the 4x800-meter relay, as Amaris Munya, Lyla McMillen, Alafair Scelfo, and Angelica Wolfe combined to win the event with a time of 9:48.63.
On the boys side, Samuel Johnson delivered Montverde Academy's lone event victory, winning the triple jump with a leap of 14.91 meters.
