Montverde, Fla. (April 28, 2026) – Baseball standout Sid Goecke has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week following a dominant performance on the mound in the Eagles' regional quarterfinal victory.
Goecke was instrumental in Montverde Academy's 12-0 mercy-rule win over Foundation Academy in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A Region 2 championship last Friday. The left-hander delivered a complete effort in the shortened game, pitching all 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs. He struck out two batters and did not issue a walk, showcasing outstanding control and composure throughout the game.
His performance helped propel the Eagles into the regional semifinal round for the first time since the 2023 season.
Goecke has been a consistent presence on the mound for MVA all season. He leads the team with 11 appearances and has logged a team-high 36.0 innings. He also leads the Eagles with 38 strikeouts and has recorded three wins on the year.
MVA now turns its attention to the regional semifinal round, where the Eagles will face The First Academy in a best-of-three series. The matchup serves as a rematch of the district championship, which MVA won on April 17.
All games in the series will be played at The First Academy in Orlando. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 PM. Game two will take place Saturday at 4:00 PM, with a decisive third game, if necessary, set for Saturday evening at 7:00 PM.
