Softball Wins Two of Three Games on Friday at Kissimmee Klassic; Poe Sets Home Run Record

The Montverde Academy softball team put together a strong showing on Friday at the Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic, winning two of its three games on the day while also celebrating a historic milestone at the plate.
 

Game 1: Eau Gallie 3, Montverde Academy 2
Montverde Academy opened play at the Roger Jones Kissimmee Klassic with a tightly contested 3-2 loss to Eau Gallie.

The Eagles struck early, scoring a run in both the bottom of the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Eau Gallie responded in the top of the third with two runs to even the score, then pushed across the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

Missy Odom led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Nevaeh Williams added an RBI, while Audrey Vivino scored a run.

Williams was strong in the circle despite taking the loss, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five.


Game 2: Montverde Academy 14, Matanzas 1 (5 innings)
MVA bounced back in dominant fashion in game two, run-ruling Matanzas 14-1 in five innings.

The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, plating four runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second, MVA exploded for eight runs in the third to take a commanding 12-0 lead and put the game out of reach.

Addie Poe led the offensive surge, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Her home run was the 16th of her MVA career, setting a new program record for most career home runs in MVA softball history. It also marked the 30th home run of her high school career.

Colby Reish went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Cali Flowers finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs. Elin Gunkel added two hits and two runs, and Audrey Vivino contributed a triple and three RBIs.

Odom earned the win in the circle, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out 10.


Game 3: Montverde Academy 1, Coral Reef 0
The Eagles closed out the day with a gritty 1-0 win over Coral Reef in a classic pitcher's duel.

With the game scoreless through six innings, MVA broke through in the top of the seventh. Poe scored the game's only one on a clutch two-out single from Williams.

Williams and Odom each collected two hits, with Williams driving in the decisive run.

Odom was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout. She allowed five hits over 7.0 innings while striking out 10 to secure the win.

MVA will play one more game in the tournament on Saturday morning at 9:00 am against IMG Academy.
