Montverde Academy softball's postseason run hit a setback on Thursday as the Eagles fell 4-1 at home to The First Academy in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A District 7 Championship game at the Montverde Academy Softball Complex.

The loss marks just the fifth of the season for MVA, which now stands at 18-5 overall. Despite consistent traffic on the bases throughout the game, the Eagles were unable to capitalize, leaving 12 runners stranded and scoring their lone run in the final inning.

The First Academy took control early, plating two runs in the top of the second inning before adding two more in the sixth to build a 4-0 lead. MVA threatened in multiple innings, recording at least one base runner in every frame, but timely hits proved elusive.

The Eagles broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning when, with two outs, a defensive miscue by The First Academy's second baseman allowed MVAy to get on the scoreboard and avoid the shutout.

Offensively, MVA tallied nine hits in the contest, led by Audrey Vivino's standout 3-for-4 performance. Cali Flowers and Missy Odom each added two hits apiece, with both recording a double.

In the circle, Nevaeh Williams turned in a solid outing despite taking the loss. The right-hander pitched 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Odom came on in relief and was efficient, retiring all three batters she faced in the final inning.

While the district title slipped away, MVA's season is likely far from over. The Eagles are expected to earn an at-large bid into the FHSAA Regional Tournament, with quarterfinal round play set to begin Wednesday, May 6.
