Precious Achiuwa Named McDonald's All-American

Montverde Academy varsity basketball player Precious Achiuwa was named to the 2018-2019 All-American Team along with 16 other top prospects on Thursday, January 24.

Just before MVA's big win over Westminster 80-59 in the 16th Annual Montverde Academy Invitational (MAIT), Achiuwa was heading from class to the gym when he received a text from a close friend finding out the big news.

"My friend texted me saying 'congratulations, can you give me the shorts'", said Achiuwa. "At first I didn't know what he was talking about but then he told me that I was an ALL-American and I couldn't help but smile."

It was a dream come true for Achiuwa as being named a McDonald's All-American was one of his goals for his high school career.

"To be an All-American and play in the all-star game is what every kid wants to do as a basketball player," said Achiuwa. " I worked really hard for this opportunity and I will continue to improve in my game."

Achiuwa is averaging 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game as a senior and is ranked No.16 in the nation according to ESPN high school rankings. Achiuwa's next goal he looks to accomplish is to earn MVA's fifth banner in the National Championships.
