The 17th Annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament
The MAIT is featuring top nationally and state ranked teams
Touted as the most competitive tournament in the country, the 2020 Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) will feature some of the top high-school basketball teams in the nation including; No.1 nationally ranked Montverde Academy, the No.15 nationally-ranked Long Island Lutheran who is currently favored to make the MAIT Championship, No. 24 La Crosse Central who is not only one of the top undefeated teams in Wisconsin but also a Signature Series Champion in the City of Palms Classic of 2018 and capping off this competitive field is the No. 28 nationally ranked Scotlandville Magnet High School.
MAIT will also feature some of the best local basketball talents in the state of Florida consisting of South Miami High School who went undefeated in their district last year, three-time 4A State Champions Westminster Academy, and the new up and coming Master's Academy. Adding an international flavor to the field, the 2020 MAIT will host Crestwood Preparatory College, a highly competitive team out of Toronto, Canada.
The 17th Annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament will also be hosting some of the top players in the country. The MVA roster will feature the No.1 player in the nation, Cade Cunningham, No. 8 Scottie Barnes, No.14 Day'Ron Sharpe, and No. 38 Moses Moody in the senior class of 2020. The Eagles are also led by two-time Naismith High School Coach of the Year Kevin Boyle who has produced five NBA Draft Picks in his coaching career at MVA (R.J. Barrett - New York Knicks, Ben Simmons - Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid - Philadelphia 76ers, D'Angelo Russell - Golden State Warriors, Dakari Johnson - Oklahoma City Thunder).
Long Island Lutheran features the University of Illinois commit and one of the top point guards in the state of New York, Andre Curbelo (ranked No. 56 in the nation). Also on the roster is University of California commit Jalen Celestine and Ohio State University commit Zed Key who is a projected power-5 starter.
Lacrosse Central features power forward Terrance Thompson who has received over 10 offers from multiple Division I NCAA universities and University of Wisconsin commit Jordan Davis.
Scotlandville Magnet High School is led by the No.42 nationally ranked Reece Beekman who has officially committed to the University of Virginia. Also adding elite explosiveness and versatility to the their roster is University of Virginia commit and dual athlete (football and basketball) Jonathan Horton.
"This will be another highly competitive MAIT and will rival all of our previous MAIT tournaments in the past," said Associate Head Coach Rae Miller. "There are a lot of high profile players and teams from across the country that will be playing in the MAIT and we have to play at our absolute best if we want to win."
Last year, MVA won its seventh MAIT title in the past eight years with a 79-56 win against Rancho Christian (California). A total of 12 games over three days will be played, with action beginning at 2:00 p.m. on January, 23. The championship game is set for 8:00 p.m. on January, 25. MVA has played in the title game every year beginning in 2012 and looks to continue their winning streak.
