Montverde Academy Tennis student-athlete and Middle Tennessee State University commit Love Star Alexis has been awarded Athlete of the Week (April 3-9) for her spectacular performances both on and off the court. Alexis won the Quebec Regional Championships and qualified for the 2019 U18 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals in Toronto. At the tournament, Alexis was able to make it to the third round before falling to Victoria Mboko who went on to win the tournament. Off the court, Alexis has a 3.5 cumulative GPA earning Cum Laude Academic Honor Roll recognition.
"She is a fighter who has a great desire for the game," said Head Tennis Coach Jaime Oncins. "She is somebody who can come back to win a game at any moment. Once she gets going, she is hard to beat. If she continues to develop in her game, she will excel at the next level."

Interview with Athlete of the Week Love Star Alexis:
Q: What inspired you to play the game of tennis?
A: My mom signed me up for the sport and I honestly didn't know what to expect. I ended up falling in love with the sport and realized it was something I wanted to pursue at the college level.
Q: How do you like competing at the MVA Tennis Academy?
A: I love playing for Montverde Academy because I have never been part of a team so genuine and so loving. We always push each other no matter what and they have become my "Brazilian Family". I have learned so much with them. They taught me Portuguese, their culture, and also the value of true friendship. The coaches are the best coaches I have ever had because they know how to be our coach, mentor, and friend. I love the diversity of MVA, and that's what makes it so special.
Q: What made you want to commit to Middle Tennesee State University?
A: I committed to MTSU because of the nice atmosphere they have and I had the chance to see the tennis team practice. It's the only place where I felt like I belonged and I am certain that the coach and I will get along well.

Q: What do you want to major in college? What are your long term goals?
A: I would like to major in psychology because it is a subject that interests me a lot. I love helping people and I appreciate listening to people. My primary choice of career would be a professional tennis player because my love for tennis is huge.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of Tennis?
A: Outside of tennis, I really like to take pictures and hang out with my friends. I also enjoy writing songs too or listen to new music.
