Innerview With Oli Episode 7: Dylan Sorrentino
Dylan Sorrentino is an eleventh grader on the Montverde Academy boys' tennis team. Dylan is from the United States Virgin Islands and has been playing tennis for four years and has attended Montverde Academy for one year.
One of the nicest things about Montverde Academy is the scheduling and wide variety of options available for all students and athletes. Athletes, like Dylan, are able to schedule their sport around their classes by classes in the morning before taking to the tennis courts in the afternoon to perfect his craft.
"My tennis program is built into my schedule, so I have five periods of classes, lunch, and then straight to tennis every day," Dylan stated.
Many athletic programs at Montverde Academy are scheduled similar to this way, including tennis, basketball (Center for Basketball Development), and soccer (Soccer Institute Montverde Academy).
Athletes grow up following role models, which can lead to and more focused and dedicated athletes on and off the court.
"I stay motivated through my teammates and by watching some of my favorite motivational videos from David Goggins" Dylan explained.
David Goggins is a very well-known endurance athlete who has completed over 60 ultra-marathons and triathlons. David is also known for his highly praised public speaking abilities.
"Some of my favorite memories while playing tennis was when I was playing so well that my opponent openly quit the match. I felt extremely proud and confident in my abilities," Dylan pronounced.
Confidence is key to an athlete's success and having fond memories as such promotes confidence among all athletes.
"Coach Rodrigo (Rattes) also keeps me motivated in my skillset and myself and gives me an opportunity to believe in myself."
Failure is a part of every sport and can be something that is tough to overcome. When failing, mindset is a huge part to flipping the switch.
"You can win them all, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, even when playing at your best" Dylan explained. A large majority of athletes tend to struggle with the mental part of their game, but Dylan seems to have his under control.
Dylan plans to graduate in 2024 and attend a college in the United States where he will major in business.Â
