All MVA Girls Basketball Seniors Earn NCAA Scholarships

After another great season, all five Montverde Academy senior athletes on the girls basketball team committed to NCAA Division I colleges and universities.

Senior Kayla Morris was one of the first Lady Eagles to announce her commitment this past regular season to East Carolina University.  Despite dealing with injuries, Morris is a high caliber player with great size and versatility. She also can knock down shots from beyond the arc and block shots on the defensive end. Even though she did not get to play for most of the season, Morris brought the team together with her leadership, positivity, and commitment.

The next Lady Eagle to commit to the University of Evansville is shooting specialist Erin Dumas. Averaging 7.5 points, 3.1 steals, and 1.6 assists per game, Dumas is an elite player with speed, lateral quickness, and has the ability to create her own shot.

"She played multiple guard positions, always guarded the best player, and was clutch from the 3-point line," said Head Basketball Coach Laura Harper. "Off the court, she led by example and she knew the Montverde culture because she was there for all 4 years of high school."

Despite dealing with two consecutive knee injuries, Kseniia Kozlova committed to Middle Tennessee State University and through proper physical therapy, she is set to compete on the MTSU women's basketball team in the fall. Kseniia is a great player with outstanding strength, rebounding, and a relentless mindset. Off the court, she was a member of the MVA Headmaster Leadership Institute and earned honor roll recognition.

The captain of the MVA girls basketball team, Caleigh Rose-West committed to the University of New Orleans. West was the Lady Eagle's vocal leader, captain, social coordinator, and motivator. Averaging 5.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, West looks to bring the same intensity at the collegiate level.

Point guard Nina De Leon committed to Austin Peay State University, where she will bring competitiveness and facilitate the offense. Leon had some of the biggest plays of the season with game-winning shots against top teams in the state and averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 assists, 1.5 steals per game.

"She will be a vocal floor general at the next level," said Harper. "She will have an impact on the defensive end and control the tempo at all times. Nina was our heartbeat and got us into our offense. Off the court, she brought the team together and was the comedian of the team."
