This weekend, Coach Guilherme Ferreira and the Montverde Aquatic Club will assist in running the UANA Qualifier Meet at the National Training Center in Clermont. Two MVA swimmers will be taking part in this prestigious event, with their eyes set on securing a spot in the Olympics and World Junior Championships.
The UANA meet is an important, unique event as it is one of the only three competitions in the United States that offers internationals an opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Swimmers from 50 different nations will compete for the opportunity to represent their country on the world stage this summer in Tokyo.
More than 20 Olympians and several NCAA and national champions will be in attendance, including world record holder Alia Atkinson and American record holder Robert Finke. MVA freshman student-athlete Emily Santos will be fighting for a spot to represent Panama in Tokyo, while junior Kierro Stubbs will be hoping to secure a spot representing the Bahamas at the World Junior Championships.
