Montverde, Fla.— Three Montverde Academy girls' volleyball players reached double figures in kills as the Eagles defeated St. John Lutheran 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-13) at the Nest on Thursday evening.

Thalita Marangon had 13 kills, Isabella Johnson had 12 and Ana Julia Peixoto had 11 for the Eagles who snapped the Saints' eight match unbeaten streak to start the season.

Bailey Hollis added eight kills, 19 assists, three service aces and four blocks for Montverde Academy who are now 2-2 on the season.

Luiza Manata had a match-high 24 digs in the win.

Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity gold team earned a 2-0 (25-8, 25-10) win to improve to 4-0 on the season. Luiza Tanaka-Aranda had eight kills (no errors) on nine attempts (.889 percentage), while Jadyn Langley added five kills. Isabella Parra had seven service aces and 10 assists.

Montverde Academy returns to action on Wednesday, September 7 for a triple header at Lake Highland Prep. The junior varsity purple team will play at 4:30 pm, followed by the gold team at 5:30 pm. The varsity match is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
