The Montverde Academy girls' basketball team overcame a double-digit halftime deficit and soared to victory as the Eagles, for the second year in a row, won the GEICO High School Nationals Championship beating Long Island Lutheran 60-54 in the championship game on Saturday morning in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Eagles rose to the occasion where it matted most. MVA fell behind from the outset of the game, and the Eagles trailed 21-12 after the first quarter. The No., 2 seed Long Island Lutheran outscored the top seeded Eagles 13-8 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 34-20 lead by halftime.
MVA outscored the Crusaders 21-14 during the third quarter to make the score 48-41 after three periods. Then in the decisive fourth quarter, MVA put the clamps down on its opponent with a 19-6 outpour to take the lead and go onto victory.
 "At halftime I told the team to play the way you know how to play, we're way better than this," head coach Special Jennings said about the 14 point halftime deficit.  "We are a resilient team, we've had our share of adversity all year and these girls are fighters, and they kept fighting."
Sahnya Jah scored a team-high 20 points, including 15 in the second half, and was named the Player of the Game. Meanwhile Cori Allen had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The win officially ends the Eagles' season with an all-time program best 26-1 overall record, and winners of the GEICO High School Nationals championship two years in a row.
