MVA Boys’ and Girls’ Swimming Wins Big at MVA Quad Meet

Montverde, Fla. (September 2, 2023)—The Montverde Academy boys' and girls' swim teams crushed eight pool records and combined to win 17 of the 24 events as both teams went 3-0 in the MVA Quad Meet at the Aquatics Center on Saturday morning.

The Montverde Academy girls' team earned a 664-445 win over Rockledge High School, a 668-413 victory over Viera High School and a 659-464 triumph over Lake Minneola High School. On the boys' side, the Eagles won 740-367 against Rockledge High School, 738-422 against Viera High School and 738-488 against Lake Minneola High School. Both teams are now 3-0 on the young season.

On the girls' side, MVA swimming set six MVA Aquatics Center records at the meet, including two relay records and four individual records.

In the 200 meter medley relay, the team of Regina Torres, Emily Santos, Layla Busby and Ivanka Bukele earned the win in a new pool record time of 2:01.93. In the 400 meter freestyle relay, the team of Torres, Alejandra Ordonez, Brianna Monahan and Anabella Munoz set a new pool record of 4:05.28.

Individually, Torres set two new records, including a win in the 200 meter individual medley in a time of 2:25.66 and a victory in the 100 meter backstroke in a record time of 1:03.06. Santos earned a win in the 100 meter breaststroke in pool record time 1:12.22, while Ordonez tapped the touchpad in a record time of 2:11.48 in winning the 200 meter freestyle.

MVA girls also earned a relay win in the 200 meter free relay behind the team of Ordonez, Busby, Monahan and Ivanka Bukele in 1:54.25. Other individual wins by the Eagles include Bukele in the 50 meter freestyle (28.43), Cassandra Jones in the 100 meter butterfly (1:08.78), Ordonez in the 100 meter freestyle (59.78) and Monahan in the 400 meter freestyle (4:49.32).

On the boys' side, the Eagles set two pool records in individual races, including one by Alexander Block in the 200 yard individual medley (2:18.06) and Jayden Chan in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:07.37). Chan also won the 50 meter freestyle (25.54).

The Eagles swept all three relay races on the day too. In the 200 meter medley relay, the team of Block, Paolo de Fabrique, Ting Yuk Cobi Wu and Adam Odler were victorious (1:52.48), while in the 200 meter free relay, Block, Chan, Elian Giangreco and Thomas Merchan earned the win (1:42.50). Then in the 400 free relay, the team of Giangreco, Chan, de Fabrique and Odler were the winners (3:49.06).

Montverde Academy is back in action on Wednesday, September 6 for a tri-meet at Winter Park High School with West Orange High School at 4:30 pm.
