Montverde Academy boys' basketball team improved to 16-0 on Friday evening as the Eagles downed Oak Hill Academy 80-50 in day one of the 2024 Hall-of-Fame Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Three players scored in double figures, led by Cooper Flagg who had 25 points, to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists and five blocked shots. Derik Queen added 17 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Eagles, while Robert Wright had 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Asa Newell led the rebounding efforts with a game-high 10 boards as MVA held a 38-28 advantage on rebounds.
The Eagles held a 44-16 advantage on points in the paint, 18-8 on second chance points and 20-2 on fastbreak points.
MVA led 16-12 after one quarter of play, and the Eagles were up 34-24 at halftime. MVA outscored Oak Hill 24-10 in the decisive third quarter to take a 24 point lead of 58-34 before entering the fourth quarter.
The win now improves the Eagles to 6-0 in Nike EYBL Scholastic play.
MVA is back in action on Saturday for day two of the Hall-of-Fame Classic against Brewster Academy at 5:30 pm.
