Montverde, Fla. (January 9, 2024)—Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced that boys' basketball team member Cooper Flagg has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 7.
Flagg had a great pair of games last week, while playing in front of his friends and family in his home state of Maine at the Maine Event, which included wins of 93-51 over Gonzaga College High School on Friday and 105-58 over CATS Academy on Saturday.
In Friday's win, he narrowly missed a triple-double, getting 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots in front of a capacity crowd of 6,700 at the Cross Insurance Arena in the win over Gonzaga College High School. Then on Saturday, the Pine Tree State folk hero poured in 29 points and had nine rebounds in the Eagles' victory over CATS Academy in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,500 at the Portland Expo Center.
A twelfth grader, Flagg is leading the current team in points per game with 16.9, rebounds per game with 7.4 and blocks per game with 2.5, while sharing the team lead in steals per game with 1.4. He is second on the team in assists per game at 4.2.
Committed to play in college at Duke University next year, Flagg is currently the number one ranked high school basketball player in America, holding the No. 1 spot on the ESPN 100 Recruiting Database.
The 6-9 Flagg says his favorite thing about Montverde Academy is the school community and his favorite subject at MVA is math. In addition to playing basketball, Flagg's hobbies include video games and golfing.
Flagg and the rest of the MVA boys' basketball team is currently 15-0 this season, and the undefeated Eagles return to the hardwood on Friday, January 12 for day one of the 2024 Hall-of-Fame Classic at the Blake Arena in Springfield, Massachusetts against Oak Hill Academy at 7:30 pm.
