The Montverde Academy baseball team has earned the top seed for the 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 9 tournament.

As a result of its top seed, the Eagles will host No. 8 seed Crooms Academy in a quarterfinal round game on Monday, April 29 at 6:00 pm. If MVA wins, the Eagles advance into the semifinal round of the district tournament and will play at home against the winner between No. 4 seed South Sumter High School and No. 5 seed Trinity Prep on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:00 pm. And if MVA advances beyond that, it will play at home for the district championship and host either No. 2 seed Umatilla High School, No.3 seed Lake Highland Prep, No. 6 seed Cornerstone Charter Academy and No. 7 seed Windermere Prep on Thursday, May 2 at 6:00 pm.

This past regular season, MVA went 12-8 overall and won the Citrus League championship. The Eagles have played against some of the toughest competition around the country, including the nation's number one ranked team during the Alabama Showdown earlier in the year.

The Eagles have been led in hitting by Federic Irving with a .367 batting average and a team leading 16 runs and eight doubles. Meanwhile, Anthony Picciano has batted .364 with a team-high 12 runs batted in.

On the mount, Christian Borbely has been the ace of the staff this season. He has a team-high four wins and a 1.92 earned run average. He has tossed 43.2 innings and amassed 67 strikeouts.
