The Eagles outscored their opponents 25-5 during a decisive third quarter to take the lead and pull away as the Montverde Academy boys' basketball team defeated AZ Compass 64-49 in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Chipotle High School Nationals in Brownsburg, Indiana on Thursday evening.

The Eagles fell behind early and were down 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and 28-24 at halftime.

But a massive third quarter surge by the Eagles put them ahead for good, and after 24 minutes of action, MVA was up 49-33 before going on to win.

Cooper Flagg had a team-high 16 points in the win, to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Derik Queen added 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Robert Wright had 14 points in the win, while Liam McNeeley added 11.

MVA dominated in the paint. The Eagles outscored AZ Compass 30-16 on points in the paint. But MVA also went to the free throw line 25 times, compared to 10 for AZ Compass. The Eagles connected on 16 of 25 foul shots.

MVA is now 31-0 overall this season, and the Eagles will face Christopher Columbus High School in the semifinal round on Friday at 4:30 pm.
