The Montverde Academy boys and girls cross country teams opened up their 2024 campaigns by competing in the Mount Dora Christian Academy Invitational on Saturday Morning in Mount Dora. The boys team finished sixth of 13 teams with a score of 149 points, while the girls finished fifth of 12 teams with 126 points.
In the boys' race, Will Moss was MVA's top finisher and placed ninth overall of 105 runners with a time of 19:29.40. Lucas Coan was the second fastest Eagle and finished 19th overall with a time of 20:19.70. Parker Simkins finished finished third for MVA and 31st overall with a time of 21:39.40. Jackson Balls was fourth for the Eagles and 38th overall with a time of 22:06.70. Ayden Henley rounded out the top five scorers for the Eagles and finished 59th overall with a time of 23:35.30. Laven Parker finished 61st with a time of 23:46.90 and Shaan Verma in his first race as a member of the MVA boys cross country team finished 69th with a time of 25:07.60.
On the girls' side, Alafair Scelfo led the way for the Eagles placing 18th overall with a time of 23:48.50, Lyla McMillen finished second for MVA and 23rd overall with a time of 24:10.50. Angelica Wolfe finished third and 25th respectively with a time of 24:19.40. Federica Perez finished fourth for the Eagles and 33rd in the race with a time of 25:05.20, Lexi Fraser finished fifth and 36th with a time of 25:39.80. Bella Kelley finished 42nd overall with a time of 26:11.40.
The Eagles return to the course on Friday September 27th in the Tohopekaliga Invitational in Kissimmee, FL.
