The Montverde Academy girls' weightlifting team competed in the FHSAA District Championship on Friday morning in Winter Garden, FL, placing second of six teams in the Olympic discipline and third of five teams in the Traditional discipline.

MVA came out of the event with a pair of champions as  Gabby Joseph finished first place in the Olympic discipline by lifting a total of  220 (100 snatch, 120 clean & jerk), while in the 154 pound weight class, Elena Friedman finished first in the Traditional by lifting 290 pounds (145 bench, 145 clean & jerk).

As a result they have earned automatic qualifiers into the Regional championship scheduled for Thursday, January 30 at The Villages Charter School in The Villages.
