The Montverde Academy boys and girls cross country teams are set to compete in the FHSAA Regional Championship on Thursday, November 13, at Holloway Park in Lakeland. The girls race is set for 9:25 am, and the boys race is 9:50 am.
Both teams enter the meet following strong performances at last week's District Championship at Sand Hill Scout Reservation in Spring Hill.
Senior standout Will Moss delivered a dominant showing in the boys race, winning the district title by more than 65 seconds with a time of 15:56.67. His performance not only shattered the course record but also made him the first high school cross country runner  ever to break the 16-minute barrier at the Sand Hill Scout Reservation. Moss will look to continue his outstanding season and earn another trip to the state championship.
On the girls side, the Eagles turned in an impressive performance as a team, finishing second overall to advance to regionals. Alafair Scelfo led the way for Montverde Academy, placing fourth overall with a time of 20:36.85.
Following Thursday's regional meet, qualifying athletes and teams will move on to the FHSAA State Championship, scheduled for Saturday, November 22, at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.
