Cross Country Set for FHSAA State Championship on Saturday

The Montverde Academy boys and girls cross country teams are headed to Tallahassee this weekend as they compete in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State Championship at Apalachee Regional Park. The girls race will begin at 7:40 a.m., followed by the boys race at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The Eagles enter the state meet with strong momentum following standout performances at last week's regional championship.

On the boys side, Will Moss continued his exceptional season by winning the regional title in 15:59.96, finishing 36 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Moss secured his return to the state championship with his victory. He will be joined in Tallahassee by teammate Salvator Scelfo, who finished 14th at regionals with a time of 17:10.93. Both Moss and Scelfo qualified as individuals, earning two of the four available spots for runners whose teams did not advance as a whole.

The MVA girls team once again proved to be among the region's best, placing second overall to earn an automatic berth to the state championship meet. Lyla McMillen led the Eagles with another strong performance, continuing her consistent season in which she has been Montverde's top finisher in all but one race. With their qualification, the Eagles girls program advances to the state meet for the seventh time in the last nine years, further solidifying its tradition of excellence.

The Eagles will now look to cap their season with strong showings against Florida's best on the state's biggest stage.
