The high school golf season officially came to a close Saturday afternoon, and both Montverde Academy teams capped their outstanding postseason runs with fourth-place finishes at the Florida High School Athletic Association State Championships at Mission Inn Resort & Club.
BOYS FINISH FOURTH AT EL CAMPEÓN
Competing on the demanding El Campeón course, the boys turned in a 294 (+6) on day two, bringing their two-day total to 592—good for fourth place in a highly competitive 16-team field.
Leading MVA was Byungchan Yoon, who followed his opening-round 69 with a steady 73 (+1) on Saturday to finish at 142 (-2) for the tournament. His performance earned him a tie for fourth overall out of 97 golfers.
Hung Khanh Le repeated his day-one score with another 75 (+3) to finish at 150 (+6) for the event, tying for 27th overall.
Oscar Ricketts delivered one of the biggest day-two improvements for MVA, bouncing back from a 79 with a 72 (Even)Â to close at 151 (+7) and tie for 31st overall.
Carlo Guzman completed his tournament with an 81 (+9) on day two, finishing at 156 (+12) and tying for 52nd.
GIRLS TAKE FOURTH ON LAS COLINAS
On the Las Colinas course, the girls made an impressive move on day two, firing a 285 (+1)—a four-stroke improvement from Friday—to post a 574 (+6) and secure a fourth-place finish among 16 teams.
Cynthia Yang produced one of the standout performances of the entire championship. After opening with a 70, she surged on Friday with a brilliant 67 (-4) to finish at 137 (-5). Yang was part of a five-way tie for the individual state championship and ultimately finished tied for second overall after the playoff round.
Close behind her was regional champion Cassy Zhu, who followed her 72 with a strong 71 (E) on day two to finish at 143 (+1) and tie for 12th overall.
Michelle Jing Su also climbed the leaderboard, improving from 74 to a 70 (-1) on Friday for a two-day total of 144 (+2), tying her for 15th overall.
Bonnie Wu closed her championship run with a 77 (+6) to finish at 150 (+8), tying for 31st overall.
A STRONG FINISH TO A SUCCESSFUL SEASON
With both teams finishing inside the top four and multiple Eagles placing among the top individual performers in the state, MVAÂ once again showcased its depth, consistency, and championship-caliber talent.
The Eagles now officially close the 2024–25 high school golf season—one marked by postseason success, individual breakthroughs, and a strong showing on Florida's biggest stage.
