The Montverde Academy boys golf team is headed to the state championship after winning a playoff round after finishing tied for second out of 12 teams at the Florida High School Athletic Association Regional Championship held Monday at Seven Springs Golf Club in Trinity.
The Eagles tied Circle Christian for second place with a team score of 288 (Even), four strokes behind regional champion The First Academy (284). The tie forced a playoff round, where MVA edged Circle Christian 20–21 to claim the runner-up spot and secure an automatic berth to the FHSAA State Championship, set for November 14–15 at Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
In the playoff, Michael Frasure delivered a clutch performance, sinking a 20-foot putt to clinch the win and avoid a second overtime round.
MVA's consistent play throughout the day was led by Frasure, Hung Khanh Le, and Byungchan Yoon, who each carded a 71 (-1). Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was Oscar Ricketts with a 75 (+3).
With the second-place finish, the Eagles continue their strong postseason run and will compete among the state's best programs in two weeks on a quest to win its first state championship in program history.
