Montverde Academy boys basketball continued its strong recent form on Saturday afternoon, grinding out a 74-70 overtime victory over Archbishop Stepinac on day one of the Jordan Holiday Classic in New York City.

The win marked the Eagles' fifth straight victory as Montverde Academy improved to 5-3 on the season.

MVA controlled the tempo for much of the afternoon, jumping out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 31-22 by halftime. The Eagles maintained its momentum coming out of the break, pushing the lead to 48-37 by the end of the third quarter.

Archbishop Stepinac mounted a ferocious comeback over the final eight minutes of regulation, erasing the deficit to force overtime. But in the extra four minutes, MVA responded with poise and toughness, making key plays on both ends of the floor to secure the hard-fought victory.

Dhani Miller led the way with another dominant all-around performance, finishing with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Derek Daniels added 17 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Javion Tyndale contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Oneal Delancy finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, and Joe Philon III provided a strong presence inside with seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Montverde Academy returns to action on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Dynamic Prep on day two of the Jordan Holiday Classic.
