Montverde Academy softball scored five runs in the top of the first and three in the top of the second to leave no doubt about as the Eagles rolled to victory 16-2 over Hagerty High School in Oviedo on Monday evening.
With the Eagles already up big in the top of the fifth inning, Danika Spinogatti made team history. She belted her sixth home run of the season, and the fourteenth of her career to set a new record for most career home runs in team history. Spinogatti was 2-for-2 with the home run, two walks and four runs scored.
Meanwhile, Spinogatti's teammates supplied plenty of offense as well. The team combined for 15 hits and was led by Miranda Murch who was 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and five runs batted in. Teammate Addie Poe went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Elena Friedman also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Pitcher La'Breah Sands earned the win after going 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five. Emerson Gunkel pitched a scoreless the fifth inning in the win.
The nationally and state ranked Eagles are now 13-1 on the season and return to action this Thursday for a game against Viera High School in day one of the Kissimmee Klassic at 8:00 pm.
