The Montverde Academy softball team won 7-2 at fellow state ranked Parrish Community High School on Tuesday evening to improve to 22-2 overall on the season.
In a game that was arguably MVA's toughest opponent of the season, the Eagles broke the game open in the latter innings. The game was scoreless going into the fifth inning, when Addie Poe belted her seventh home run of the season and her third in as many games. She blasted a two-run shot that scored Luna Taboas to put the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Then MVA broke the game open with five runs in the top of the sixth to deepen the lead to 7-0. Brianna Kennedy reached on a fielder's choice to score Elena Friedman from third to make the score 3-0. Then Taboas reached on a fielder's choice to score La'Breah Sands. Moments later, Leila Susaia hit a bases clearing double to double to put the Eagles up 7-0.
Taboas led the Eagles with two hits, while Poe, Susaia and Colby Reish had one hit each.
Pitcher Nevaeh Williams picked up the win after going 6.0 innings and allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out 12
MVA closes out its regular season on Wednesday with a home game against Lecanto at 6:00 pm.
