Montverde Academy softball punched its ticket to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional championship after a 10-4 victory over Cornerstone Charter Academy on Tuesday afternoon in the regional semifinal round.
The Eagles were powered by a balanced offensive. Elena Friedman led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Addie Poe added a 2-for-4 day and drove in two runs, while Audrey Vivino also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Nevaeh Williams provided a big boost with a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the fifth inning that brought in three runs. Williams also pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out three.
La'Breah Sands earned the win in the circle, starting the game and pitching four innings. She gave up three runs (two earned) and struck out six.
With the win, Montverde Academy will play in the regional championship game for the third year in a row. The Eagles will face Trinity Catholic at 6:00 PM.
