The Montverde Academy girls cross country team finished 23rd of 41 schools at the 12th annual Florida Horse Park Invitational in Ocala. Meanwhile on the boys' side, MVA had two runners compete, with Will Moss finishing seventh overall of 424 runners and Salvatore Scelfo finishing in 166th place.
On the girls' side, Lyla McMillen was the first Eagle to cross the finish line and was 38th overall of 345 runners in a time of 20:10.3 minutes. Meanwhile, Federica Perez was second on MVA and 110th overall in 21:47.7 minutes. Alafair Scelfo was third for MVA and 143rd overall in 22:37.6, while Amaris Munya was fourth for MVA and 187th in the race in 23:23.3. Zara Liles-Henry rounded out the top five scorers for the Eagles by finishing in 219th place in 24:26.4 minutes.
Also competing for MVA included Isabella Kissler who finished 243rd overall in 24:54.3 and Alon Scelfo who was 325th overall in 29:19.5.
On the boys side, Will Moss, as a non-scoring competitor, finished seventh overall of 424 runners in 15:49.7 minutes. Salvarore Scelfo finished 166th overall in 18:00.8 minutes.
The cross country teams return to the course on Saturday, September 20 for the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Tohopekaliga High School at 8:00 am.
